Intoxicated Man Arrested On CLT Ramp

Was Denied Boarding At Gate

Authorities arrested a man late Tuesday night who was allegedly drunk on the tarmac of Charlotte/Douglas International Airport.

Police say 42-year-old Christopher Beyerbach had been denied permission to board his flight earlier in the evening, and that he then became disruptive before leaving the gate area... only to show up a short time later outside the terminal near Concourse C.

Airport officials speculated the South Carolina man may have gained access to the ramp through a fire exit... something aviation director Jerry Orr says can be tough to avoid in a public facility.

"Without going into details, in a public facility, you can get to where you aren't supposed to be," Orr told the Associated Press. "There's lots of people, and you can't lock all the doors because some are fire exits."

Beyerbach is now free on bond, pending a court appearance.
