Congressman, CEO Receive Top AIAA Awards

Awards Honor Aviation, Space And Science Support

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) presented its highest awards Tuesday night at the Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.

Congressman David L. Hobson, R-OH, received the AIAA Public Service Award, and David W. Thompson, chairman and CEO of Orbital Sciences Corporation received the Barry M. Goldwater Educator Award, according to the Institute.

The Public Service award honors a person outside the aerospace community who has shown consistent and visible support for national aviation and space goals. The Congressman was chosen for this award for outstanding contribution and service to the aerospace industry and community.

The Barry M. Goldwater Educator Award is presented by the AIAA National Capital
Section to an individual of national stature that has supported the advancement of science and technology in commerce and education at all levels.

Thompson received the award for accomplishments as a space entrepreneur and pioneer of smaller size space systems that has made space applications more beneficial and accessible.
