Chicago PD Takes Delivery Of Two Bell 407GXis

Department Expands All-Bell Fleet, Adding Public Safety Capabilities

Bell Textron announced the delivery of two Bell 407 GXi helicopters to the Chicago Police Department, expanding the operational capabilities of its Helicopter Operations Unit to provide additional public safety command-and-control for its first responders.

The all-Bell helicopter fleet of the Department serves more than 2.6 million residents in the city, and the new pair of aircraft enhance its ability to provide homeland security through increased aerial recon and surveillance operations.

Lane Evans, Managing Director of North America for Bell said, “Bell is proud to build upon our over 20-year relationship with the Chicago Police Department as they modernize their aerial public safety capabilities with an all-Bell fleet. The Bell 407GXi is an incredible multi-mission aircraft with hundreds of public safety agencies throughout the world using the platform to advance their operations.”

Ben Lassiter, Regional Sales Manager for Bell said, “With the integration of 21st century technology and advanced mission-readiness capabilities, the Bell 407GXis will elevate the Department’s public safety operations for decades to come.”

The Bell 407GXi is equipped with single-pilot IFR capability and adjustable cabin space that can seat up to five, allowing operators to perform in demanding environments as well as transport essential public safety equipment.

The aircraft is also equipped with a cargo hook able to carry 3,100 pounds of gear and equipment, adding to its tactical capabilities.

Larry Snelling, Superintendent, Chicago Police Department said, "This new fleet marked a new era for our Helicopter Unit. These helicopters are our eyes in the sky, allowing us to address crime in a safer and more efficient manner."
