Army Skydiver Rescued From Powerlines In Florida

Became Entangled During Training Exercise Near DeLand

Fire and rescue crews from DeLand, Florida were called out Monday morning to assist an Army skydiver who had become entangled in some electrical lines during a training jump.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that the soldier was identified as Carlos Esparza. He was not injured, but was left hanging from a power pole on a street just north of DeLand Municipal Airport. Fire crews arrived, the lines were de-energized, and Esparza was helped down from the pole.

Esparza is stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. He was participating in a training exercise and following behind his squad when he drifted into the power lines. A police report said he "was tangled in the parachute cords and hanging from the wires on top of the pole."

No one was injured, and no other soldiers were involved.
