Heart Aerospace Gears Up for First Fully Electric Flight

Heart X1 to Take Debut Flight in Early 2025 in Plattsburgh

Heart Aerospace recently confirmed plans to send its fully electric demonstrator aircraft, the Heart X1, for its first flight in early 2025. The experimental aircraft will be departing from New York’s Plattsburgh International Airport (PBG).

The Heart X1, or Experimental 1, is on a path to becoming the largest fully electric aircraft to ever take flight. It has a 32 m (105 ft) wingspan and is powered by four undisclosed electric motors and propellers. BAE Systems has been named as the battery provider for the X1.

The X1 is the demonstrator for the Swedish manufacturer’s upcoming ES-30 project. The ES-30 will be a 30-seat hybrid-electric regional passenger aircraft producing a 200 km zero-emissions range and a 400 km extended hybrid range. It aims to serve as a sustainable and efficient short-haul airliner to prove Heart’s electric propulsion tech.

“Electric commercial airplanes have the potential to lower operating costs for US airlines, creating a powerful opportunity to reestablish regional air routes that stimulate local economies, boost tourism, and enhance access to urban hubs,” stated Anders Forslund, co-founder and CEO of Heart Aerospace.

Before the ES-30 can take the stage, Heart will be refining the X1’s design and manufacturing methods through the Heart X2 pre-production prototype. The X2 is slated to take flight in 2026.

Plattsburgh International Airport was specifically chosen for its proximity to the Champlain Valley, which has seen a spike in next-gen technological developments. It houses ample airfield infrastructure, low air traffic, and a strong transportation community.

“Heart Aerospace’s decision to conduct its fully electric experimental flight from Plattsburgh International Airport reflects Clinton County’s strong commitment to advancing next-generation transportation technologies,” explained Mark Henry, Clinton County’s Legislature Chairman. “Clinton County is strengthening its position as a transportation manufacturing cluster, and we are excited to be part of Heart’s journey and the growing sustainable aerospace community in upstate New York.”

The Heart X1 is in the middle of a ground and systems test campaign to ensure a successful debut flight early next year.
