Recent Issues With Batteries May Create Problems For MacBook Pro Users

If you're a proud Apple MacBook pro owner/user, you may not have reason to be when you check in for your next airline flight.

It seems that the folks at the FAA have instituted a ban on a limited number of Apple’s MacBook Pro laptops on scheduled 121 operations, after Apple recalled those laptops affected by battery problems that posed the potential of a fire. An FAA spokesperson noted that, “The FAA is aware of the recalled batteries that are used in some Apple MacBook Pro laptops...” and has apparently “alerted airlines about the recall.”

It's actually been a few months since Apple admitted that there were some reported and substantiated issues with certain 15-inch MacBook Pro units which were prone to overheating and potential fire/ignition. The affected units were put into circulated between September 2015 and February 2017.

According to UPI, four international cargo carriers -- TUI Group Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines, Air Italy and Air Transat -- have also chosen to ban the laptops. EASA also requires electronic devices with small lithium-ion batteries to be switched off during flights. There are reportedly some 450,000 laptops, with recalled batteries, affected by this problem in North America alone... and ANN is checking their video staff's laptops as we write this...
