Growing Along The Gulf Coast
Stennis International Airport (HSA), in Bay St.
Louis (MS), is in the process of developing and implementing long
and short-term plans that address key growth opportunities for the
airport. The airport is owned and operated by the Hancock County
Port and Harbor Commission. In April 2002, the commission received
an independent report outlining the existing operating situation of
Stennis International Airport as well as some recommendations for
future growth and development. The report recommends that the Port
and Harbor Commission "entice and welcome new support oriented
businesses to the field to benefit both users and the local
economy, and provide the correct environment to build and foster
trust and growth of use by the aviation community."
Answering the call...
On the strength of this recommendation, Bill
Cotter, the Airport Manager, and Gregory Talbot, President of Mardi
Gras Air, began a consultative process last summer that resulted in
an agreement with the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission for
Talbot and his firm Mardi Gras Air to establish a new, full-service
FBO at Stennis. The new FBO will be offering full service by July
1, 2003. Mardi Gras Air will be a "branded" Phillips 66 aviation
fuel service provider.
In speaking on this new FBO, Gregory Talbot stated
"We plan to be part of the Stennis International Airport for a long
time to come. Our goal at this site is to start from day one with
nothing less than a world-class FBO and to grow with the airport.
MGA will work collectively with the Bill Cotter and the Hancock
County Port and Harbor Commission to meet the growth and potential
of tomorrow."
Accordingly, the initial service offering for MGA at Stennis
will focus on a completely renovated, purpose developed 10,000 sq.
ft. hangar facility plus an adjoining 2,500 sq. ft. of annex/office
area for tenant and line support requirements.
Mardi Gras Air (MGA) was formed last Summer, to develop new
aviation service support operations in specific, significant, yet
under serviced markets.
