EAA Chapter 534 Hosts Successful Fly-IN At Leesburg International

Event Attended By About 70 People Saturday

The Leesburg International Airport in Leesburg, Florida was a beehive of activity on Saturday April 26,2014 while the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 534 held a Fly-In at their hangar. A hearty breakfast and lunch was served to all the visitors by the chapter’s volunteer members. Our best estimate was that we had 70 people show up for the Fly-IN.

Several planes flew in and were parked on the ramp close to the hangar. The weather was good despite a little early morning fog which cleared up by 10:00 AM. Many people also elected to drive. We had several amphibians that showed up for breakfast then flew over to the Seaplane Splash-In at Wooton Park in Tavares, Florida only a few miles away for lunch. The city Logo is” Tavares, America’s Seaplane City”.

The chapter displayed some of the building projects members are working on such as the two 1929 Pietenpols ,a Murphy-Rebel and a Progressive Aerodyne Searey amphibian kit aircraft. The Pietenpols are basically of wood and fabric construction, the Murphy is an all metal kit and the Searey  is a combination fiberglass hull with fabric covered wings. The Searey aircraft kits as well as completed planes are manufactured in Tavares, Florida.

There was a great deal of hangar flying going on which are discussions between pilots and aviation enthusiasts about airplanes that others have built or  are going to build and friendly banter about all sorts of flying activities. A good time was had by all.
