Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office Completes Initial NVG Qualification Course

County Uses Two Helicopters For Law Enforcement And Public Safety Support

Night Flight Concepts traveled to Contra Costa County California in June to provide night vision goggle (NVG) training to the Sheriff's Aviation Unit.  The Air Support Unit of the Contra Costa (CoCo) County Sheriff's Office has two helicopters that provide law enforcement reconnaissance, rescue, and support to all public safety agencies within the County.  The Sheriff's Office uses "Star One", a Bell 407 and "Star Two", a Bell 206B-3 for aerial patrol of Contra Costa and surrounding counties, as well as the East Bay Regional Park District.

Randy Rowles, NFC chief flight instructor commented "the pilots and TFO's are skilled at their craft. The use of NVG's is yet another tool to help them do their mission safer and more effective."  The training took place over the course of three days. Ground and flight training was conducted in the Bell 407 aircraft by Randy Rowles. Both pilots and TFO's participated in the training to maximize their effectiveness while maintaining crew continuity during training. Rowles stated "NFC appreciates the strides taken by the Contra Costa County SO leadership to provide this level of training to their staff in these difficult economic times."

Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office takes part in the "Turn Green, Turn Key" program offered by Night Flight Concepts. With this program, Contra Costa County SO received multiple sets of FAA Approved Nivisys NVAG Night Vision Goggles, annual NVG maintenance agreement, and completed REBTECH STC lighting kit installations on both the Bell 206 and 407 aircraft.
