Evolito Limited Sees Design Approval for Axial Flux Motor in UK

Electric Motor Brings More Power to the Table than Ever Before

Evolito Limited, axial-flux electric motor specialist, obtained Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the UK Civil Aviation Authority for electric propulsion system products.

Their D500 Axial Flux Motor is stacked for increased torque, offering peak power exceeding 1 megawatt. It's good news for eVTOL designers around the world, as is any electric motor or battery advancement. The firm is the 1st company in the UK to achieve such approval for an electric propulsion system. Type Certification will still be necessary, but for now the DOA proves that Evolito has the "technical expertise, facilities and capabilities to design safe and reliable products," and should one day be able to comply with actual certification standards.

“Securing Civil Aviation Authority DOA approval is an important step in supporting our customers' aircraft certification activities and for applying for Type Certificates for our electric propulsion systems," said Chris Harris, co-founder of Evolito. "Holding our own Type Certificates will allow aircraft customers to integrate our component off the shelf (COTS) electric propulsion solutions saving aircraft manufacturers both time and money and enabling them to focus on the aircraft certification.”

“We have been working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority through these thorough and rigorous assessments, and we are delighted that they have awarded Evolito the UK’s first DOA for an electric propulsion system," added COO Gareth Morris. "While this DOA takes Evolito one step closer to Type Certification, it’s also an important step for the electric aerospace industry, further accelerating the commercialization of electric flight.”
