Cessna 310 Down West Of Vero Beach

Occupants Reported To Include Grandsons Of Buffalo Bill Cody

While authorities have not yet officially released the names of those on board, a Cessna 310 that went down last Thursday is reported to have been carrying brothers 67-year-old Kit and 65-year-old Barry Cody, the grandsons of Wild West character Buffalo Bill Cody. The two were identified by a family member, according to Fox News.

The Cody Enterprise newspaper reports that Kit Cody was the owner and pilot of the plane. He, his brother, and close friend Rob Krieger had reportedly been "island hopping" in the Bahamas in the Cessna, having spent two days on Treasure Cay in the Abacos. All three were fatally injured when the plane went down in the Fort Drum Marsh Conservation Area about 20 miles west of Vero Beach, FL. The Cody brothers, who grew up in Florida, reportedly were close friends with, and often visited Krieger, who lived in the state.

The accident site is a remote, wooded area only accessible by helicopter. The accident occurred late Thursday afternoon, but the wreckage was not discovered until the following day. The three were reportedly flying form Okeechobee, FL, to Bartow. The weather was reported to be poor at the time of the accident.

Kit's wife Linda Cody had originally planned to go with the brothers and their friend on the trip, but reportedly decided not to go at the last minute.
