DJI Debuts Mini 4 Pro

A 249-Gram Drone with Heavyweight Features

Shenzhen DJI Sciences and Technologies Ltd.—more widely known as Da Jiang Innovations, or simply DJI—is a Chinese state-backed designer and manufacturer of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). DJI drones are widely used in the music, television, and film industries. In 2021 DJI models accounted for approximately 76-percent of consumer drone sales.

The DJI drone catalog has been supplemented, most recently, by the company’s introduction of the DJI Mini 4 Pro, a drone DJI asserts has been “ … crafted to be the ultimate companion for adventure enthusiasts.”

The Mini 4 Pro features omni-directional obstacle sensing and DJI’s flagship DJI O4 video transmission technology.

DJI creative director Ferdinand Wolf stated: “The Mini 4 Pro perfectly marries professional-grade capabilities while keeping its hallmark lightweight design, offering unmatched freedom and adaptability. This drone emerges as the ultimate all-rounder, designed to elevate your creative toolkit.”

Massing less than 249-grams (8.8-ounces), the Mini 4 Pro is engineered for portability but conforms to extant drone regulations in a majority of world nations and regions.

DJI’s Mini 4 Pro offers users powerful imaging tools such as: a 1/1.3-inch Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) sensor, a new image-processing platform, and dual native ISO fusion. The latter feature is a photo and video mode in which onboard sensors algorithmically integrate images captured by two sets of analog amplifier circuits. ISO fusion affords Mini 4 Pro users better dynamic range of actual imaging.

Moreover the Mini 4 Pro’s f/1.7 aperture, 48 MegaPixel (MP) image resolution, 4K/60-frames per-second (fps) High Dynamic Range (HDR) video, and Slo-Mo shooting at 4K/100-fps capture moments in breathtaking detail. 2.4μm pixels and an enhanced noise reduction algorithm in DJI’s Night Shots video mode deliver clear, clean footage even in low-light conditions.

The Mini 4 Pro facilitates creativity by dint of True Vertical Shooting and smartphone playback. A 60° large-angle tilt for fluid camera motion broadens cinematic possibilities, while digital video zoom bolsters users’ storytelling abilities by magnifying photos up to 2-times and videos up to 4-times.

The Mini 4 Pro allows users to achieve professional-grade post-production control with 10-bit D-Log M recording, granting access to more than a billion colors. No matter the means and medium by which content is published, HLG ensures colors and brightness remain true-to-life without adjustment or format conversion. Mini 4 Pro users may preserve intricate nuances with 48MP RAW and SmartPhoto technology, an ingenious fusion comprising HDR imaging and scene recognition.

The Mini 4 Pro features, also, omnidirectional obstacle sensing consisting of multiple wide-angle and downward-facing vision sensors. The antecedent capability is complemented by an Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS), automatic braking, and obstacle bypass.

To the subject of flight-time-per-charge, the Mini 4 Pro is able to remain aloft for up to 34-minutes. The drone’s endurance can be extended to 45-minutes by way of DJI’s Intelligent Flight Battery Plus4.

DJI's flagship O4 video transmission provides users ultra-responsive control and smooth 1080p/60fps FHD video transmission capability from distances of up to twenty-kilometers. The abbreviation FHD connotes Full High Definition—which is to say resolution of 1920 x 1080-pixels.

Piloting the Mini 4 Pro is simplified by DJI’s Waypoint Flight automatic route function and cruise-control for long-distance, steady-state flights. The drone’s advanced return-to-home system automatically navigates a safe flight route back, facilitated by the AR RTH feature for more control during return flights.

The Mini 4 Pro not only offers three intuitive methods for capturing shots: Spotlight, Point of Interest, and ActiveTrack 360°. Subject capabilities, in conjunction with DJI’s omnidirectional obstacle sensing, allow users to bypass obstacles and achieve smoother, more stable tracking.

Additional Mini 4 Pro features include: MasterShots, which facilitates dynamic camera movement templates tailored for portrait, close-up, and long-range shots; QuickShots, which enables Dronie, Circle, Helix, Rocket, Boomerang, and Asteroid modes; Hyperlapse, which provides Free, Waypoint, Circle, and Course Lock modes with unlimited shooting time, and supports compositing while shooting; Panorama, which supports shooting 180°, Wide Angle, Vertical, and Sphere panoramic photos; QuickTransfer, which quickly transfers photos and videos to smartphones in the absence of a linking remote controller.

Mini 4 Pro users will enjoy availing themselves of DJI’s LightCut video editing architecture. LightCut streamlines video editing via wireless connection and AI technology, allowing one-tap generation of videos through the merging of ActiveTrack, MasterShots, and QuickShots footage. The LightCut app, by eliminating the need to download footage, automates sound effect matching and template application while preserving smartphone storage. Real-time sound effects enhance aerial creations, and an array of innate aerial shot templates—from nature to cityscape and tilt-shift effects—facilitates effortless video creation by importing aerial footage.

DJI’s Mini 4 Pro drone allows users to discover the company’s SkyPixel feature—a revolutionary digital platform intended to enhance aerial photography. By virtue of an array of cutting-edge features, including a comprehensive database of fly spots and expert fly tips, SkyPixel advances drone enthusiasts’ mastery of aerial photography. The feature allows users to remain well-informed of nearby fly spots and local regulations, thereby ensuring safe and worry-free takeoffs for pilots of all experience levels.
