IAC Hall of Fame Selects Their Latest Inductee

Linda Meyers Morrissey Recognized After Several Podium Finishes

The International Aerobatic Hall of Fame announced their latest inductee on August 21. The winner, Linda Meyers Morrissey, started her medal-winning streak in the 80’s and has been continuously involved in the sport ever since.

The IAC Hall of Fame was created in 1986 with the purpose of properly recognizing those who have significantly contributed to aerobatics. Its committee receives hundreds of nominations every year, closing the submission pool on February 1. Then, each nomination is reviewed by the seven-member selection committee. After final votes are made, selected nominees are sent to the IAC board for final approval.

The 2024 winner, Linda Meyers Morrissey, has made several impressive aerobatic feats for the United States. She placed 4th overall in 1984 and 3rd for females, but 5th overall, in 1994 at the World Aerobatics Championships. She was also recognized with the Fond du Lac Cup in 1991, the Pitts Cup and Harold Krier Cup in 1992, and the Betty Skelton Trophy in 1995. Morrissey received numerous other individual flight medals and awards before retiring from Unlimited competition in 1996.

Despite her withdrawal from the tournament scene, Morrissey’s passion for aerobatics never died. She has continued to train and coach aerobatic pilots in all stages, including everything from basic to Unlimited maneuvers. She and her husband, John Morrissey, also host Great Plains Aerobatics Training Camps at their home base in Ashland, Kansas and various fields throughout the United States. Their expertise has produced proven results for aerobatic pilots.

"I am convinced that my own success as a three-time U.S. National Champion and sixteen-year member of the U.S. Unlimited Aerobatic Team,” explained IAC Director Emeritus Debby Rihn Harvey, “can be tied directly to Linda through her coaching.”

Morrissey’s IAC Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be occurring in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 16.

“Linda attends regional contests and never fails to step up wherever needed,” the IAC commented. “She deserves this recognition for all of her expertise in handling any contest problems that may arise, and her dedication to training the next-gen aerobatic pilots.”
