Medical Helo Down In Eastern Kentucky

All Three Aboard Fatally Injured In The Accident

An Air Evac medical helicopter went down Thursday in eastern Kentucky resulting in the fatal injury of the three people aboard the aircraft. There was no patient aboard at the time of the accident.

Radio station WHAS reports that an NWS meteorologist in Jackson, KY, said there was dense fog in the area where the accident occurred. The aircraft impacted the ground in the parking lot of Paces Creek Elementary School outside Manchester, KY, which is about 90 miles southeast of Lexington. But, he said, there was no "violent" weather in the region.

The company identified the crew as pilot Eddie Sizemore, flight paramedic Herman "Lee" Dobbs and flight nurse Jesse Jones. They had delivered a patient to a hospital in London, KY, and were returning to the helicopter's base when the aircraft went down.

Air Evac Lifeteam president and CEO Seth Myers said in a statement that the company has been "devastated" by the loss.

UPI reports that, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Highway 421 was closed in both directions near the accident scene while it was being investigated.
