Sporty’s Offers Folding Knee Desk

Sorry Center-Sticks, This One’s for the Yokes

Sportys has shown off tis new aviator workstation in the form of a lap-bound ‘organizer’ offering a stiff metallic 9”x8” surface.

The “Metal Bi-Fold Lap Desk” allows pilots and pax to put that open thigh space to use with a folding, knee-mounted workplace for charts, notes, and devices. The lap desk features a clamp on the right side for keeping maps and papers in position during the flight, with the powder-coated steel board allowing the use of placement magnets anywhere else. Once unfolded, that 9”x8” surface unfurls to 16” wide and 9” tall, also revealing a reference placard with the usual VFR aids like light gun signals, ICAO alphabet, flight plan sequence, mandatory reporting points, transponder codes, cruising altitudes, and the like.

Sure, the ‘Metal Bi-Fold Lap Desk’ isn’t going to work for those operating aircraft with floor-mounted center sticks or very compact yoke arrangements, but it could be just the ticket for those working as instructors, surveyors, or even travelers sans the helpful accompaniment of a tray table. More stable work surfaces can come in handy when getting something done on the road, no matter who you are.

Like all Sporty’s kit, the board is available via their website at a price of $22.95.
