Boeing Memo Leads To Reprimand For 31 Workers

"Unauthorized Disclosure"

Boeing's effort to sell its commercial manufacturing plants in Kansas and Oklahoma now has a name, according to the Wichita Eagle: "Project Lloyd."

To that end, 31 Boeing employees and managers are being disciplined for "misusing" the document outlining Project Lloyd. The company says they showed the project overview to people who never should have seen it.

The issue "is the unauthorized disclosure of information to individuals who were not supposed to have it," according to company spokesman Dick Ziegler. "They took it out of the chain it was intended for and misused it." He was quoted in the Eagle.

The Society for Professional Engineering Employees In Aerospace (SPEEA) says it will investigate the propriety of the disciplinary actions, which range from verbal reprimands to suspensions, according to the Wichita paper.

"I have a feeling we're going to have a lot of doubt," said SPEEA Midwest Director Bob Brewer. He said the union will probably file a formal grievance against the company for disciplining workers about misdirecting the project overview.

"Project Lloyd" appears to refer to Boeing's plan for selling its commercial operations in Wichita, Tulsa and McAlester (OK). Looking for all the world like an internal planning document, the Project Lloyd Overview details properties for sale, as well as the number and status of employees at each site.
