Boeing Responds to Order Falloff

More Pink Slips Friday

Friday was the last day of work for some 460 Boeing workers in the Northwest, as layoff notices from January came due.

Another round of bad news was passed out in the same geographical region Friday, as 960 more workers got 60-day notices of their impending layoffs. This newest layoff will hit both salaried and hourly workers, part of planned 2003 layoffs of about 5000. Most of these are in the commercial aircraft division.

That figure, 5000, was planned before the war with Iraq. Depending on the length of the war, and its severity to Boeing customers, the planned-layoff number could again be revised.
