FAA Makes Grants To St. Louis Downtown, Raleigh County Airports

Both Airports In Line For Safety Improvements

The FAA has recently handed out grants to St. Louis Downtown Airport (KCPS) in Cahokia and Sauget, IL, and Raleigh County Airport (KBKW) near Beckly, WV, for safety improvements.

St. Louis Downtown will receive over $2.3 million to rehabilitate the airport's runway, according to a report in the St. Louis News-Democrat. The airport is one of the state's busiest, and is the location for several aviation businesses. Officials said the improvements will help the airport continue to grow.

In West Virginia, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller secured $147,000 to improve runway approaches at Raleigh County Airport in Beckley. "Our airports provide a critical gateway for businesses and economic development in West Virginia’s communities,” said Senator Rockefeller, who chairs the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. “This funding will help make sure that all the runways at Raleigh County Memorial Airport are able to fully operate, helping to boost economic growth and enabling our local businesses to thrive.”

According to a report in politicalnews.me, the funding will be used to clear obstructions in the approaches for runways 1-19 and 10-28, as well as the transitional surfaces on the tarmac.
