Electra Unveils Design Of EL9

Ultra Short Takeoff And Landing Hybrid-Electric Aircraft

Electra.aero, of Manassas, Virginia, revealed the design of its EL9 Ultra Short hybrid-electric aircraft it intends for travel without airports, emissions, or noise. The design was presented at Electra’s headquarters to an audience of more than 300 guests including aerospace leaders, partners, customers, government officials, friends, and media. Electra will now enter the development phase for the nine-seat EL9 that is supported by more than a year of flight testing its two-seat EL2 Goldfinch prototype.

Blue Origin’s Heavy-Lift Rocket to Take First Flight in Late 2024

AST SpaceMobile has chosen Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket to deploy its new Block 2 BlueBird satellites, aiming to build out a space-based cellular broadband network. The first launches will take place over multiple years from Blue Origin’s Launch Complex 36 in Cape Canaveral, Florida. New Glenn, named after astronaut John Glenn, stands over 320 feet tall and is designed to carry heavy payloads into low Earth orbit (LEO). It has a seven-meter payload fairing, which allows it to transport multiple devices per mission.

Air Force Selects 2024 Spark Tank Winner

Prototype F-16 Cockpit Ladder Chosen of 138 Designs

The Department of the Air Force (DAF) recently announced the winning design of this year’s Spark Tank competition. Out of 138 total entries, a prototype for an F-16 Fighting Falcon cockpit ladder came out on top. The selected design was created by Major Nick Atkins, project lead for the 31st Fighter Wing.

Pitkin Residents Vote For County Control Over Airport Decisions

Opposing Measure Would Have Required Voter Approval On Many Issues

Pitkin County residents voted by a 67% - 33% margin to allow the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) to make its own decisions regarding the Airport Layout Plan to widen and realign the runways and taxiways at Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (KASE). Voters overwhelmingly supported ballot question 1C, put on the ballot by the Pitkin County BOCC,  over a competing citizen initiative that would have required a vote for nearly every decision the County Commissioners might make regarding the airport.

Naval Test Wing Pacific Conducts Gray Flag 2024 With Multiple Partners

The Naval Test Wing Pacific and VX-9 at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, California, hosted Gray Flag 2024 in September with more than 3,000 personnel from the Navy, Marine Corps, Army, and Air Force conducting more than 60 test initiatives. Multiple allied partners along with participants from academic and science and technology partners joined the U.S. forces in the testing activities. The complex event included about 600 aircraft sorties and more than 25 systems being tested on the ground.

Analysis: About 30 minutes after departing on a cross-country flight, the pilot heard the engine “misfire,” but observed that all engine instruments and temperatures appeared normal. The engine misfired again, and he decided to return to his departure airport. A few minutes later, the engine lost partial power.
