Merlin Enters Autonomous Flight Test Program

Cessna Caravan Equipped With Merlin Pilot

Merlin Labs announced its Merlin Pilot-equipped Cessna Caravan has begun flight testing in a first for the industry. Upon successful completion, its certified automation will extend across aircraft types and classes. Merlin Pilot has already been successfully integrated on the Lockheed C-130J and the Boeing KC-135 in collaboration with the U.S. Air Force. The Caravan was upgraded to a glass cockpit with advanced avionics, new sensors, an autopilot, and an automated communication system. The automation systems are redundant similar to Part 25 air transport aircraft.

The Air Charter Safety Foundation announced that its 2025 Safety Symposium will be held April 7-9 that the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University’s (ERAU) Daytona Beach Campus. The symposium will be co-hosted by ERAU’s Boeing Center for Aviation and Aerospace Safety and the College of Aviation, giving Business Aviation professionals an opportunity to come together to discuss the advancement of safety in the industry.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel Coming To Mesa Airport

Falcon Field Getting Avflight’s First Supply of SAF

Fixed Base Operator (FBO) Avflight announced it received its first supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from its sister company Avfuel at Falcon Field (KFFZ) in Mesa, Arizona. It is the first Avflight location to offer SAF. Avfuel now consistently provides SAF supply to 30 of its locations and the second in Arizona to come online this summer.  It demonstrates that the supply of SAF is becoming increasingly more available and consistent across the aviation infrastructure landscape.

NTSB Prelim: Engineering & Research Ercoupe 415-C

(No ADS-BN, No Transponder) Tracking The Airplane After It Departed DNV Was Difficult

On August 10, 2024, about 2000 central daylight time an Ercoupe 415-C, N3093H, was found in a soybean field near Elkhart, Illinois. The pilot was fatally injured. A post impact fire ensued, and the airplane was destroyed. The flight was operated under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91as a personal flight. On August 6, 2024, the airplane departed Roben-Hood Airport (RQB) in Big Rapids, Michigan, about 1700 and landed at Vermilion Regional Airport (DNV) in Danville, Illinois, about 1900.
