In early July of this year, H55’s Bristell B23 Energic, during its Across America Tour, made a several-day stop at Centennial Airport (KAPA) outside of Denver, Colorado, where it flew the same flight path as a comparable-sized piston engine aircraft across the airport’s six official noise-monitoring stations. The hot-off-the-press results show that the B23’s noise profile was below ambient sound – undetectable – by 3 of the 6 sensors... The EAA announced that next year’s AirVenture, the “World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration,” will be showcasing the vertical lift segment of the industry. Starting with next year’s event, aircraft including helicopters and VTOL aircraft will have a dedicated space in AirVenture’s Aviation Gateway Park. The space will also feature other ele

After a flight that was supposed to last days turned into one that lasted months, Butch Wilmore has retired -- following a total of 25 years at NASA, flying in four different spacecraft, and accumulating 464 days in space. During his time at NASA, Wilmore completed three missions launching aboard the space shuttle Atlantis, Roscosmos Soyuz, and Boeing Starliner to the International Space Station. The U-2 Dragon Lady was on display all week at AirVenture. It was a homecoming of sorts for the aircraft but even more so for its pilot. Lt. Col. GOGO, is a veteran U-2 pilot and inspector general of the 9th Reconnaissance Wing. He flew the aircraft directly from Beale Air Force Base in Yuba County, California, assisted by instructor pilot John Huggins of the 1st Reconnaissance Squadron following in the chase care to provide guidance via radio during the landing. Airborne Affordable Flyers 08.07.25: MOSAIC Review, Spirit SE-1, Hummingbird

Also: OSH26 Goes Vertical, Christen Eagle Reborn, CubCrafters New Feathers, SiriusXM Expands

The long-awaited MOSAIC regulation finally published in the Federal Register, lets look at what it means and how it affects you... Spirit Engineering blew the hangar doors off Oshkosh with its SE-1. The single-seat SE-1 was deliberately kept off the radar until it arrived in Oshkosh, where four aircraft made the cross-country trip from Grand Junction, Colorado… and burned just 88 gallons of gas between them. Spirit Engineering made the aircraft basic in all the right ways. Vertical Aviation Technologies has reintroduced its Five-Stage Purchasing Program for the Hummingbird helicopter, letting builders eat that elephant one bite at a time with a selection of packages. It's a slick system, helping to tame the headaches that accompany the assembly and manufacture of a rotary-wing aircraft. Each of the 5 packs contains one self-contained system or struct

Airborne 08.04.25: Osh25 Results, Christen Eagle Returns, Crazies v Blue Angels

Also: Crop Duster Shooting, SIU Student Legacy, French Air Taxes, Delta Pilot Busted

The final numbers are in, and EAA AirVenture 2025 has once again outdone itself. According to the EAA, the event drew approximately 704,000 visitors to Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, beating last year’s record by 18,000. Visitors came from 94 countries, and camping areas were packed, with over 15,000 sites accounting for 40,000 people staying on the grounds. Aircraft arrivals across east-central Wisconsin topped 10,000, including 16,246 takeoffs and landings at Wittman Field alone between July 17 and July 28. One of aviation’s most beloved aerobatic biplanes is now back in production under its original name: the Christen Industries Eagle. Rights to the Eagle were purchased out of the Aviat collection by long-term admirer Chuck Therriault. Therriault’s passion for all-things-Eagle has been clear since he was eight years old, when h

Airborne-NextGen 08.05.25: UAV Disaster Relief, Neo 2 Rumors, SkyDrive

Also: NASA-Firefly Contract, US-EU Trade Deal, Boom Symphony Engine, AIR Snags $23M

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries announced its participation in a practical training exercise in conjunction with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s Asaka Garrison, the goal of which was to improve response capabilities in the event of an earthquake centered in the Tokyo metro area. The mid-size UAV is electric powered and intended for a variety of missions including transport of disaster relief supplies, logistical support to remote areas, and transport of construction materials for power transmission towers. The DJI Neo was a surprising hit amongst content creators, acting as an autonomous cameraman and lightweight tag-along, but the regulatory environment of 2025 may keep its sequel away. The DJI Neo 2 recently showed up on the FCC website, an essential step whenever a new drone came to the U.S. domestic market. But drone fans have been eyeing shipments of DJ
