Drone Deliveries Begin At Dallas-Fort Worth Malls

Wing Partners With DoorDash And Brookfield Properties

Wing Aviation, a designer, manufacturer, and operator of autonomous delivery drones, announced it has partnered with DoorDash and Brookfield Properties in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in Texas to offer ultra-fast drone deliveries from local malls.

The first of its kind service in American shopping malls was launched at Brookfield’s Stonebriar Center in Frisco and at Hulen Mall in Fort Worth. More than 50 merchants are available for delivery through the DoorDash app.

Wing has been operating in the U.S. for the past five years and according to its website, Wing’s highly autonomous drones have already carried out more than 400,000 deliveries in the U.S., Europe, and Australia.

The drones can deliver goods and meals to doorsteps in as rapidly as 15 minutes. They fly at a height of about 150 feet at 65 mph and are able to safely lower the delivery to the ground. Now when DoorDash customers with eligible addresses in the Dallas-Fort Worth area place a qualifying order in the DoorDash app, they will see an option to select a drone delivery on the checkout screen.

Wing’s partnership with DoorDash has the goal of providing customers with the convenience and speed of air deliveries, and follows pilot delivery programs in Melbourne, Australia, and Christiansburg, Virginia.

This expansion is also enabled through a partnership with Brookfield Properties, a global player in real estate management. Brookfield is one of the few operators worldwide able to curate and reimagine thriving malls and the customer experience. Through the partnership, Brookfield will develop trials of ways to incorporate drone delivery into its shopping centers to enable businesses to leverage previously underutilized spaces such as rooftops and parking areas to reach more customers at home with drone deliveries.
