SE 5A Down In Indiana

Second Accident For Phillip Krueger

A WWI era SE 5A biplane went down near shortly after takeoff in Seymour, IN Tuesday. The pilot, Phillip E. Krueger from Freetown, IN, sustained minor scrapes and bruises in the accident.

Witnesses said the plane took off from Seymour Municipal Airport (60F) and reached an altitude of about 50-60 feet before losing power and crashing in a field just north of the runway.

Indianapolis television station WTHR reports that Indiana authorities say it is the second time the SE 5A has been involved in an accident. A similar power loss incident damaged the airplane in 2008.  In that instance, Krueger had taken off from Freeman, IN (3JC) when the plane went down.

The accident is under investigation.
