Greg Gibson Named APWO President And CEO

Founder John “Lites” Leenhouts Steps Into Senior Advisor Role

The Association of Professional Warbird Operators announced that VP and COO Greg Gibson has been promoted to President and CEO effective immediately.

During the past three months, Gibson has been transitioning into the new role under the guidance of founding President and CEO John “Lites” Leenhouts and the Board of Directors.

Lites successfully launched APWO in January 2023 and through his leadership established its foundation while guiding the organization through its first two years as he committed to do.

He will now move into a Senior Advisor role to assist Gibson as well as develop the Advisory Board and lead other initiatives.

Gibson brings a long track record of experience and success through brand management and marketing across diverse industries including aviation, auto racing, and wireless technology.

He currently owns Tailwind Enterprises, a consulting firm that specializes in the marketing and branding of air shows, performers, FBOs, flight schools and other aviation businesses.

As the first Executive Director of the Fagen Fighters World War II Museum in Granite Falls, Minnesota, Gibson leveraged his extensive knowledge of WWII history to design all the displays, historical descriptions of aircraft, personnel, and ground equipment.

He is a tailwheel-endorsed commercial pilot with instrument ratings in both single and multi-engine aircraft.

Gibson said while expressing his gratitude, "I am deeply honored to step into this role and build upon the solid foundation that Lites has established. His mentorship and unwavering commitment to APWO have been invaluable, and I look forward to working closely with him in his new advisory capacity as we continue to advance our mission."
