Universal Avionics’ Announces EFB Apps

Manage Flight Plans on iPad, Upload to FMS

Universal Avionics (UA) announced the launch of its new FlightPartner and FlightReview applications, available by the end of first quarter 2022. Shown on an iPad connected to UA’s WAAS / SBAS Flight Management System over wifi, the suite will enhance the convenience and capabilities of UA avionics through two-way data integration with aircraft FMS.

The applications are part of UA’s ecosystem, meant to centralize and collate assorted tasks and communications between pilots, maintenance, and operations personnel. Operators and owners will be able to implement changes and improvements through review of flight analytics fleet-wide, or an individual aircraft. Mission preparedness on the ground can be carried out away from the plane, as well as tasking for maintenance, consumables, and logging. A secure, portable, cloud-based platform will act as the spine of the operation, with support for 3rd party apps and content.

“FlightPartner and FlightReview are UA’s early steps in a push towards the creation of a dynamic Connectivity Ecosystem, tying our various avionics systems to a suite of applications and expanded services that our customers will be able to use 24/7/365”, says Dror Yahav, Universal Avionics CEO. “After the initial deployment of the products we plan to introduce many others in the coming months and years to come”.

Many are accustomed to waits on the tarmac while “plugging in” a flight plan. With FlightPartner, users can avoid the delay with a completed flight plan imported to the FMS their EFB, right on aircraft power-up. Throughout the flight, they can modify the plan on their iPad as needed, with the updates effective to the coupled FMS. While on the ground, the app grants access to accurate weather information, displayed in horizontal and vertical profiles, to assist flight planning and operations, even prepopulating winds and temp aloft.

For maintenance departments, the ability to manage database updates to the FMS will be another boon. The accompanying Flight Review app will aid in monitoring fuel consumption, abnormal events, and operational performance of En Route CPDLC communications. Data is exchanged throughout the flight and uploaded to UA’s cloud, enabling remote review of performance and data.
