VoltAero Unveils Production Version Cassio 330

Hybrid-Electric Aircraft Debuts Ahead of the Paris Air Show

On June 15, sustainable aircraft manufacturer VoltAero unveiled the production configuration of its hybrid-electric Cassio 330. A full-scale mockup will be on display at VoltAero’s Paris Air Show exhibit in Le Bourget, France.

The final design is a result of VoltAero’s continued coordination with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and CS-23 standards compliance. The company cited reduced complexity and certification streamlining as reasons for key changes from previous prototypes.

“As we take another step toward the Cassio 330’s production, our strategy remains unchanged: using safe and efficient electric-hybrid propulsion and power technologies that are realistically available today, applying them to a conventional takeoff/landing aircraft for sustainable regional transportation using existing airport infrastructure,” noted Jean Botti, CEO and CTO of VoltAero.

The Cassio 330 now features a series-hybrid propulsion system rather than the original parallel-hybrid setup. Two Safran ENGINeUS electric motors are mounted in a pusher configuration on either side of the aft fuselage. These operate during taxi, takeoff, and climb for quiet, emissions-free flight. A thermal engine embedded in the fuselage recharges the batteries during cruise, extending range without relying on charging infrastructure on the ground.

One of the most noticeable design changes is the switch from a twin-boom tail to a conventional T-tail. VoltAero says this decision reduces the risk of structural damage in the event of a propeller blade failure and supports improved redundancy.

The aircraft retains its six-seat interior, featuring a large side door for easier access, particularly for passengers with limited mobility or during medical evacuation missions. VoltAero continues to target a variety of utility applications, including passenger service, cargo transport, and Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes in underserved regions.

Cassio 330s will be assembled at VoltAero’s new 2,400-square-meter facility in Saint Agnant, France, which opened in late 2024. The factory is built for a full-rate production goal of 150 aircraft annually and will be supplemented by future sites in other regions.

VoltAero will present the Cassio 330 and its electric-hybrid system at the Paris Air Show in Static Display Area B4. The aircraft is still undergoing final development and certification work before entry into service.
