Reports: Air France Splits $7 Billion Order Between Airbus, Boeing

Includes Two Additional A380s, 18 B777s

Air France-KLM Group CEO Jean-Cyril Spinetta announced Thursday the airline plans to order a combination of Airbus and Boeing planes, in a $7 billion order aimed at upgrading older planes in the Air France fleet.

That deal includes exercising two options on Airbus A380 superjumbos, bringing the airline's total order for that type to 12. Air France Chief Operating Officer Pierre-Henri Gourgeon said the carrier has concluded its negotiations with the European planemaker concerning delays in deliveries of the mammoth plane, and the "price takes into account" compensation Airbus owed the carrier for those delays.

Towards the smaller end of the spectrum, Air France also said it will purchase 30 Airbus A320 aircraft, to replace planes Air France took delivery of when the A320 first hit the global stage in 1988. The carrier was the launch customer for the narrowbody.

The value of the Airbus order is $2.8 billion at list prices, according to Reuters.

Over on the Boeing side, Air France announced it will buy 18 Boeing 777 aircraft. The order -- which includes three freighter variants of the widebody twinjet -- will allow the airline to replace older, less-efficient Boeing 747-400s on medium yield routes.
