No Injuries When Cessna CJ4 Runs Off Runway Into House

A Cessna 525C CJ4 light jet that landed at the Mayfield Graves County Airport (M25) in Mayfield, Kentucky, was unable to stop at the end of the runway and continued through the airport perimeter fence, across a road, and into a residence. The resident inside the home was not injured, nor was the pilot, who was the sole occupant of the jet.

Joseph Canter was at work on September 22 when he received a text from his grandmother, who he lives with at the home, telling him that a plane landed in his bedroom.

He didn’t believe her at first, saying, “My only reaction was I just asked her, ‘what,’ then I gave her a call and then she kind of just explained it to me, and there were people talking all around her. Deputies, EMTS and I could hear them all in the background. Then she sounded serious.”

Canter said he left work and rushed home on Highway 58 east of Mayfield. “So parked at the neighbor’s driveway and walked over, and sure enough, there was a plane in the house.”

In media interviews, Canter said, “Living across from the airport, it’s just not something you even think of. Obviously, we hear planes go over the house all the time.”

Local and state emergency management agencies responded, and the FAA and NTSB were notified.

A crew used a crane to move the aircraft onto a flatbed trailer. During that operation, Highway 58 was closed and only local traffic was permitted.

The Mayfield/Graves County Rescue Squad, Mayfield Fire Department, Mayfield Graves County EMS, Graves County Emergency Management, and Kentucky State Police responded and assisted at the site of the accident.
