AD: Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2019-05-15

PRODUCT: Certain Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. Model PC-7 airplanes.

ACTION: Final rule; request for comments.

SUMMARY: This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product.

The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as chafed and burned wires located under panel F5.

DATES: This AD is effective April 23, 2019. Comments must be received by May 20, 2019.

COST: The FAA estimates that this AD will affect 18 products of U.S. registry. Operators may incur the following costs in order to comply with this AD:

The average labor rate is $85 per workhour. Based on these figures, the FAA estimates the cost of the inspection and reporting requirement in this AD to be $304.50 per product.

  • The labor and parts costs for the follow-on actions as necessary:
  • Repairing chafed wires and installing a protective sleeve would take about 1.5 work-hours for a cost of $127.50 per product.
  • Replacing burnt or bare wires would take about 4 work-hours and require parts costing approximately $2,000 for a cost of $2,340.
  • Adjusting metal clips would take about .5 work-hour for a cost of $42.50.

The FAA has no way of determining the number of products that may need these actions.
