CubCrafters, Lycoming Partner With Hartzell

Launch Lightweight Pathfinder Prop

Hartzell Propeller, working closely with CubCrafters and Lycoming Engines, is developing and launching the lightweight Pathfinder composite three-blade constant speed propeller. CubCrafters is Hartzell's exclusive launch customer for the new Pathfinder prop.

With updated aerodynamics and internal structure, the Pathfinder is quieter, smoother, and, like the popular two-blade Hartzell Trailblazer propeller, it is optimized for back country operations. The Pathfinder propeller with aluminum hub and structural composite blades weighs 44 lbs. and is a three-blade alternative to the reliable Trailblazer propeller.

The Pathfinder prop is an integral part of CubCrafters' newly designed firewall forward package, including a much more powerful engine from Lycoming dubbed the CC393i. The new lightweight, fuel injected engine delivers more than 215 horsepower and weighs only 10 lbs. more than legacy fuel injected 180 HP engines.

"It has been a pleasure working with Lycoming and CubCrafters to upgrade the performance of the XCub and we are pleased to be at the forefront of yet another forward leap in performance," said Hartzell Propeller Executive Vice President and General Manager JJ Frigge.

The new Lycoming CC393i engine and Hartzell Pathfinder propeller combination will be displayed as part of CubCrafters' AirVenture 2019 exhibit at Booth 273/274, and is an option for new XCub orders with delivery in 2020 and beyond.

"As a backcountry pilot, I'm eager to experience the enhanced performance of the XCub. The combination of the Lycoming CC393i engine, partnered with the Hartzell Pathfinder propeller, will take the XCub flying experience to the next level," said Hartzell Propeller president Joe Brown.

Hartzell Propeller is the global leader in advanced technology aircraft propeller design and manufacturing for business, commercial and government customers. The company designs next generation propellers with innovative "blended airfoil" technology and manufactures them with revolutionary machining centers, robotics and custom resin transfer molding curing stations.
