Jim Richmond Foundation Bush Pilots Take on Patagonia

JRBAF Partners With Patagonia Bush Pilots To Get a New Playground

The Jim Richmond Backcountry Aviation Foundation (JRBAF) has announced a partnership with Patagonia Bush Pilots, bringing American and international backcountry pilots into the unpredictable yet breathtaking terrain of South America.

This partnership allows JRBAF members to push their limits by training with Patagonia Bush Pilots, a group known for its expertise in flying where runways are a mere suggestion and finding your way around takes some creative measures. In fact, their work in the Chubut province made it the only place in Argentina that permits off-airport bush operations.

“This partnership is a game-changer for backcountry aviators,” stated JRBAF’s Executive Director Brad Damm. “Joining forces with Patagonia Bush Pilots fits perfectly with our mission to expand public backcountry aviation access, and opens the door to provide our members with unparalleled training and adventure opportunities in one of the most dynamic flying environments on Earth.”

JRBAF pilots who take advantage of this opportunity will hone their backcountry skills by learning precision landings on isolated airstrips and getting hands-on experience with navigating steep terrain. The efforts hope to make pilots come out the other side safer and more aware.

The fun doesn’t end once the flight is over. On the ground, JRBAF pilots will get the luxury of remote Patagonian lodges, world-class fishing, and the opportunity to engage with local communities.

“We are thrilled to welcome JRBAF members to Patagonia and share our expertise in bush flying,” said Queque Parodi, CEO of Patagonia Bush Pilots. “The landscapes here present incredible challenges and rewards, and we are excited to equip JRBAF members with the skills and confidence they need to navigate them safely.”

The program launches later in 2025 and into early 2026, offering JRBAF members preferred booking dates and highly discounted rates on training and aircraft rentals.

This is a fitting project for JRBAF Executive Director Brad Damm. He is also the vice president of CubCrafters, a world-renowned manufacturer of backcountry flying machines including the Carbon Cub UL, SS, and FX light sport aircraft.
