NASA And Smokey Bear Team Up In Massachusetts

Event Commemorates Smokey's Visit To ISS

Smokey Bear will explore the stars with NASA's Cosmo astronaut mascot August 15 at Myles Standish State Forest near Plymouth, MA. This event commemorates Smokey Bear's historic journey into space, as he accompanies NASA astronaut Joe Acaba aboard the International Space Station.

The public is invited to attend this free event and learn about space, wildfire, and how NASA and the U.S. Forest Service work together for the conservation of trees, water, and natural resources.

Activities begin at 1800 EDT in the field area behind the headquarters and interpretive center at Myles Standish State Forest. NASA astronaut Mike Foreman, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation Commissioner Edward Lambert Jr., and U.S. Forest Service Boston representative Jessie Scott also will be in attendance.

This event is co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, NASA's Johnson Space Center, and the U.S. Forest Service.

This month, NASA is showcasing its multimedia exhibit, "Destination Station," which is free with admission, at the Boston Museum of Science. The exhibit will be open to the public Aug. 1 through Sept. 3. There also will be multiple activities in the Boston area supporting the exhibit.
