Aero-Linx!
Scouring the information super airways can sometimes be a tough, if educational, task for the Aero-News staff... but it also allows us to check out some truly neat and exciting sites, so it's not that bad a gig. On any given day, we may check dozens (and often hundreds) of different sources for story ideas, and facts confirmation. And, as is the nature of our business, much of this is done on the Internet.
The ANN gang decided we probably shouldn't keep some of the neat sites, info resources, and organizations we've discovered to ourselves... so we decided to bring you Aero-Linx. These are the sites that WE check out -- when we need added perspective, a new spin on a day's topic... or just want to escape into cyber-aero-space for awhile.
Look for some of our favorite sites, coming each day to ANN via Aero-Linx. Suggestions for future Aero-Linx segments are always welcome, as well.
Aero Linx: The Deaf Pilot's Association
Who is The Deaf Pilot's Association? We are men and women, teachers and students, mechanics and farmers, bankers and programmers, priests and writers, working and retired. We come from all over the United States, many European countries, and Australia. We are diverse. Many of us are Deaf people who use American Sign Language. Others employ speech and lipreading. Some of us are hard of hearing. Some are late-deafened. We are united by a common love of flying. We have been pilots since the earliest days of aviation. In fact, the first pilot to fly across the United States (Calbraith Perry Rodgers in “Vin Fiz,” 1911) had a severe hearing loss from scarlet fever during his childhood. The Deaf Pilots Association was incorporated in the State of Delaware on December 31, 2001. We were recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code in July 2003. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. DPA’s
predecessor organization, the International Deaf Pilots Association, was founded in Knoxville, Tennessee in June 1994.
