Aero-TV: Florida State Guard Rescue Response At SUN ‘n FUN

Capt. Wes Dumey Tells Us Who, What, When, And Mission Profiles

ANN’s Rex Alexander spoke with Capt. Dumey at Sun ‘N Fun, who said the Florida State Guard was reactivated in 2022 and they support humanitarian assistance and disaster response in the state of Florida.

The first crew, first IET class went through in 2023, and the unit currently stands at about 800 members.

The unit currently has 2 UH-60A in inventory along with 2 Robinson 412 as well as additional fixed-wing assets.

The Florida Guard is part of the state-level Department of Military Affairs agency and is not the National Guard nor is it affiliated with the DoD. It is primarily in support of Florida-based humanitarian assets and missions.

The Guard consists of four basic sections: the core group is the Crisis Response Battalion handles aviation, Maritime Response is responsible for maritime and water-type interdictions, and the Special Missions Unit does the special missions.

People interested in joining the Florida Guard must be residents of the state, between the ages of 18 and 60 is the target audience. Although it helps, no prior military or law enforcement experience is required.

The more certifications a person has, the more opportunities will be available to them.
