Crewed-Uncrewed Operation Featured Pantera And Banshee Radios
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Lockheed Martin, and L3Harris collaborated on a successful demonstration of a Crewed-Uncrewed Teaming using an F-22 Raptor fighter jet, and a GA-ASI MQ-20 Avenger unmanned jet.
The two aircraft demonstrated the use of their integrated L3Harris BANSHEE Advanced Tactical Datalinks with its Pantera software-defined radios via Lockheed Martin’s open radio architecture, all shared from the F-22 Raptor.
Two of the L3Harris Software-Defined Radios supported the demonstration, with one being installed in each of the aircraft. End-to-end comms between the F-22 and the MQ-20 was provided through the Pilot Vehicle Interface tablet and the F-22’s GRACE module to enable the F-22 command and control of the MQ-20 during flight.
The demonstration highlighted the non-proprietary, government-owned communications capabilities and the ability to fly, transition, and re-fly flight hardware that is at the center of the Open Mission Systems and skills based unmanned autonomy ecosystem.
The demo flight was performed at the Nevada Test and Training Range as part of a continuing series of flight demonstrations performed with internal research and development funding to showcase “the art of the possible” with teaming manned and unmanned aircraft.
