Four Aircraft Reportedly Violate Super Bowl TFR

NORAD Says None Were UAVs

Four aircraft reportedly violated the TFR put in place over Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA during the Super Bowl Sunday, all of them private manned aircraft.

Television station KNBC reports that the FAA reported the four TFR violations, but deferred reporters to NORAD for details. NORAD spokeswoman Major Katrina Andrews said that none of the violations were committed by UAV operators. Instead, she said, the four were private aircraft whose pilots did not check NOTAMS before flying Sunday. Major Andrews identified the four aircraft as a Cessna 150, a Cessna 172, a Vans RV 6, and a Beechcraft BE35.

All pilots received a verbal warning and were escorted or diverted to Palo Alto or Livermore Municipal Airports, which NORAD reports were the intended destinations of those aircraft.

The FAA had also declared that the airspace over the stadium, and out 32 miles, to be a "No Drone Zone" from 1400 until 0000 local time on game day.
