Reason For August 20, 2014 U.K. Accident Remains A Mystery

Fatally-Injured Pilot Had Spent Time In Prison For Fraud

The investigation of an accident which occurred on August 20th of last year near Padbury, Buckinghamshire, England has concluded with no firm evidence of a reason for crash.

What is known is that 60-year-old banker Muhammad Naviede was flying a Piper Tomahawk on that date when he sent a text message to his brother, asking him to look after his two daughters. The Bucks Herald newspaper reports that he lost control of the airplane at about 5,000 feet, and about two minutes after the text message, it impacted terrain in a field near Padbury.

The investigation found that the plane had no mechanical faults, there was no third-party involvement, and weather was not a factor in the accident. The local coroner said there was not enough evidence to say whether Naviede had intentionally flown the plane into the ground.

Naviede lived in London. He had spent nine years in prison for his role in a $68 million fraud scheme.

While accident investigators could not come up with a definitive cause, the paper reports that the probe has given his family some "closure", reinforcing the view that Naviede lost control of the airplane, possibly due to a loss of engine power.
