Layoffs Coming To Duncan Aviation

Dropoff In Jet Support Business Leads To Job Cuts

Declining use of business aircraft in the slumping economy is to blame for yet another av-company planning layoffs. Lincoln, NE-based Duncan Aviation announced last week it will soon cut jobs for the first time in its 53-year history.

KOLN-10 reports the business aircraft service and support company employs over 2,000 workers at facilities in Lincoln; Battle Creek, MI; and 23 other locations nationwide.

"With the present economy and the media and political grandstanding against private aviation, business conditions in our industry have continued to erode. We have advised our employees that we are in the process of developing a reduction in work force plan," reads a statement on the company's web site. "As always, our primary focus will continue to remain on doing what is in the best interests of the company, its customers and our team members."

The company offered no further comments about when the layoffs will occur, or how many jobs will be affected... saying an announcement will be made shortly. Duncan had already cut production line hours to try to stave off layoffs, with pay cuts at all other positions.

Duncan has also shelved plans to build a new facility in Provo, UT.
