MedEvac Foundation International Announces SMTA Scholarship Winners

Amanda Ball And Steve Docekal Are The 2018 Recipients

The MedEvac Foundation International has awarded the 2018 Safety Management Training Academy (SMTA) Scholarship to Steve Docekal, Director of Maintenance for Health Care District of Palm Beach County and Amanda Ball, Safety Officer and Outreach Coordinator for MedFlight of Ohio.

SMTA provides formal continuing education for individuals (and their organizations) interested in improving their understanding of safety systems theory and the application of that theory to the practice of medical transportation.  The Academy operates with a rigorous approach to competency-based education, utilizing formal classroom hours, mandatory student participation, written testing, and a code of professional conduct.

“It is my goal as Director of Maintenance to insure that our aircraft are in optimal airworthy conditions,” said Docekal (pictured, left). “SMTA will provide me with the tools and techniques to improve the overall safety of our program.”

“Attending SMTA will help me learn more from industry experts and peers and grow in my knowledge base through formal training and education,” said Ball (pictured, right). “I plan to implement the knowledge I learn at SMTA not only at MedFlight, but throughout Ohio with the help of our neighboring critical-care transport providers, first responders, state officials, and hospital safety leadership.”

The scholarship is made possible through a gift to the Foundation by the Air Medical Operators Association (AMOA). “Exceptional safety and training for our air medical providers is our primary goal,” says AMOA Executive Director, Sally Veith.  “AMOA’s support of the SMTA Scholarship demonstrates our ongoing commitment to improve the safety of the life-saving transportation we provide.”

The MedEvac Foundation International is pleased to provide funding for an additional scholarship. Air Medical Operators Association (AMOA) began funding the SMTA Scholarship in 2011.
