Seminars Explain 'WAAS All The Fuss About'

Progressive Aviation Services Hosting One-Day Educational Forums

A series of one-day seminars by Progressive Aviation Services seek to educate pilots about the benefits of Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) navigation, and make pilots more familiar with the equipment needed to utilize the services offered.

Matthew McDaniel with PAS tells Aero-News the seminars are aimed at current WAAS pilots, as well as pilots who are considering a WAAS upgrade and want to understand what they’d be buying beforehand. Non-WAAS pilots may still benefit from the review and overview of IFR procedures, he adds.

The one-day seminars cover all aspects of WAAS operations, specific to all Garmin 400W & 500W-series avionics, as well as Garmin G1000 & Perspective and Avidyne Entegra glass panel systems. The seminar is guided by a custom PowerPoint Presentation, developed by McDaniel, and supplemented with paper handouts, internet sites, dry-erase board doodling and interactive participation

McDaniel says that while the seminars are geared primarily towards Cirrus pilots, about half the pilots attending prior seminars either had or wanted WAAS equipment in their current non-Cirrus plane.

The first seminar of 2009 was held February 7, at Indiana's North Vernon Airport (OVO.) The next seminar is scheduled for March 14 in Hilton Head, SC (HXD) followed by a March 21 meeting at Gillespie Field Airport (KSEE) in San Diego, CA.

A fourth seminar is scheduled April 11 at Sugar Land Airport (SGR) near Houston, TX. Future dates are to be determined, and price and admissions information is available at the FMI link below.
