John Smutny To Direct The U.S. Nationals

Planning For 2018 Event Already Underway

John Smutny of Auburn, Washington was recently approved by the IAC Board of Directors to serve as the Contest Director of the 2018 U.S. National Aerobatic Championships in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The nation’s premier aerobatic event will be held at the iconic EAA AirVenture grounds at Wittman Regional Airport.

An IAC member for over 20 years, John was the Contest Director for the Nationals in 2012 when it was still in Texas. He has also been an active competitor for many years, having flown in 24 contests since 2006 and most recently in Intermediate category in his Wolf Pitts N240WP.

John owns his own small business but is also active in the airshow industry, providing “air boss” services and event planning to airshow organizers. He is an IAC National Judge and currently owns a Piper PA-11 and Christen Eagle II.

Planning for the 2018 event is already underway and John will report to the IAC Board of Directors in progress when they meet in Oshkosh on 17-18 March.
