This award program recognizes the most outstanding contribution to national defense in the fields of science and engineering relating to aerospace activity; flight in the atmosphere or space; arts and letters, covering a wide range of activities including writing, speaking, media relations, sculpting or painting; and for significantly exceeding standard performance.

Any Air Force military member, Department of the Air Force civilian, unit or group of individuals are eligible to apply. Major commands, combatant commands, field operating agencies and direct reporting units may submit one nomination for each award:

  • Theodore Von Karman Award
  • David C. Schilling Award
  • Gill Robb Wilson Award
  • Citation of Honor

Nomination packages are due to the Air Force’s Personnel Center by Jan. 5, 2018. Write-ups should be based on contributions that occurred between Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2017, and can include any projects that began more than a year ago, but were completed during the current calendar year.

Specific eligibility and application procedures are available via myPers. Select “any” from the dropdown menu and search “Aerospace.”
