Prince Harry Earns His Wings

Third In Line To The British Throne Is Lt. Harry Wales

Lt. Harry Wales, AKA Prince Harry, AKA His Royal Fly-ness, has earned his wings after passing his final exams to qualify him as an army helicopter pilot. The Prince said he hopes his career will take him back to the front lines in Afghanistan.

Prince Harry spent three months directing air strikes as a forward air controller in that country's Helmand Province. Now, he says he hopes to return there to fly as a pilot in the Army Air Corps.

"Like any soldier, Prince Harry would deploy to where he is asked," said a spokeswoman at Harry's St. James Palace. Royal spokespeople are traditionally kept anonymous, according to Fox News.

The Prince will learn this week whether he will fly Apache attack helicopters, or the Lynx battlefield utility helo. That decision ultimately belongs to the Army, Fox reports.

The Ministry of Defense says that, once it is determined which aircraft Harry will fly, he'll receive additional training specific to that aircraft. Meanwhile, Harry will be presented with his wings this week by his father, Prince Charles, who also flew helicopters when he was in the military in the 1970's.
