Kuwait To Buy 30 Military Helicopters From France

Deal For Airbus Caracal Helicopters Is Worth $1.1 Billion

Kuwait is set to purchase 30 Airbus Caracal military helicopters in a deal valued at about $1.1 billion, according to French media reports.

The French news service AFP reports that the Kuwaiti army will fly 24 of the H225M aircraft in SAR missions and for transport purposes. The helicopters will also be equipped with machine guns to allow them to support ground troops.

The deal was signed in Kuwait by French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Tuesday, according to the report. France has supported Kuwait militarily since it was invaded by Iraq in 1990. The two countries are also part of the international coalition fighting against ISIS.

The remaining six helicopters will be operated by the Kuwait National Guard. Deliveries are set to begin in 2019.
