Helicopter Tour Company Owner Crafts Noise Mitigation Plan

Was Presented Tuesday To The Carolina Beach Town Council

In the face of noise complaints from residents, the owner of a helicopter tour company has crafted her own noise mitigation plan in an effort to be a good corporate citizen.

Jessica Ward is the owner of High Tide Helicopters in Carolina Beach, NC. Television Station WECT reports that neighbors complained last year about the noise from the aircraft flying over their homes when the company offered rides on Labor Day weekend, and several asked if the company was violating any of the town's ordinances.

Town Manager Michael Cramer said at the time that the company was in compliance with all local ordinances, but that the town would explore ways to mitigate noise "if another helicopter event were to take place."

While it was not reported that another event was scheduled, Ward went before the town council Tuesday night to present a noise mitigation plan that would avoid residential areas, keep the aircraft higher, and fly only one weekday per week.

High Tide Helicopters operates from Cape Fear Regional Jetport in Oak Island, NC., and offers a variety of services including tourist flights, flight instruction and aerial photography.
