Indiana Farmer To Celebrate 102nd Birthday With Airplane Flight

Will Take An Extended Ride Over His Family's Farm

A farmer in northern Indiana will celebrate his 102nd birthday on November 11th with an airplane ride over his family's Warren County (IN) farm.

Milton Eugene "Gene" Leak will turn 102 on the November 18th, according to a news release. On the 11th, he will ride with pilot Martin Rice of Zionsville, Indiana, who will be flying his Citabria aircraft. The flight will originate at the Lafayette, IN Airport (KLAF) at about 9:00 am, and is expected to be about two hours in length, arriving back at Lafayette just after 11 a.m. The flight will include a landing at a grass airstrip near Mr. Leak’s farm before the return to Lafayette.

Leak has been farming since 1939. He reportedly tried to enlist to serve in WWII, but was told at the time he was too old at age 30.

Leak is almost as old as aviation. He will have the experience of seeing his farm from the air for the first time.
