Four Dead In Florida Mishap

Aircraft Was Departing Milton

A single engine aircraft, Cessna model unknown, went down shortly after take-off Thursday near the hurricane-ravaged town of Milton (FL).

Debbi Redfield, a spokeswoman for the Santa Rosa County (FL) Emergency Operations Center, said the aircraft had just departed Peter Prince Airport at approximately 1000 CDT when it went down in a neighborhood just off the end of the runway.

"Witnesses saw the plane taking off from the airport," she told local reporters. "The plane circled the airport and appeared to lose power."

The FAA said the unidentified pilot didn't file a flight plan. In fact, FAA spokesman Christopher White said the agency wasn't even sure of the N-number as of late Thursday afternoon.
