Sheriff's Deputy Injured By Ground Fire In Minnesota

Man Arrested For Firing At CBP Helicopter

A man from Clearbrook, MN was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly shot at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) helicopter, striking the aircraft and wounding a Polk County Sheriff's Deputy on board.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that it was not known if the officer was wounded by the bullet or by shattered glass from the window struck by the gunfire. He was treated and released at a hospital in Fosston, MN according to the Clearwater County Sheriff's Office.

The 71-year-old suspect was found hiding in the woods near where the aircraft was hit at the border of Polk and Clearwater counties. He has not yet been charged, according to the report.

The aircraft was engaged in surveillance of suspected drug activity when the shots were fired. It was hit twice by bullets from a high-powered rifle, the paper reported.
