MSU’s Teros UAS Assists In FEMA Response to Helene

Supported By DHS’s Project JUSTICE

Uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) from the Mississippi State University’s (MSU) Raspet Flight Research Laboratory deployed to Georgia on September 29 to conduct flights over areas impacted by Hurricane Helene. The Raspet team worked together with MSU’s Northern Gulf Institute to the UAS to gather real-time data to provide to FEMA for their response to Hurricane Helene. The team used its largest UAS, the Teros, developed by the Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation in collaboration with Sonex as the builder of the airframe.

On October 8, an Air Tractor AT-802A Fire Boss made a noseover landing while performing a routine proficiency flight over Cass County, Minnesota. The aircraft is contracted to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for fire suppression operations. The float plane departed from Brainerd/Crow Wing County Airport (BRD) at 1:47 pm.

They Turned Back Towards The Airplane And Saw It Abruptly Bank Hard To The Right And The Right Wing Subsequently Impacted The Water

On September 24, 2024, about 1445 Alaska daylight time, a Cessna 206 airplane, N8255Q, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Chalkyitsik, Alaska. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 flight. The accident airplane, owned and operated by Kavik Aviation Services LLC, had departed from Circle City, Alaska and reportedly was transporting fuel to another airplane at a remote location.
