In autumn 2022, history was made on the salt-flats of South Australia when Airspeeder pilot Zephatali Walsh beat fellow-competitor Fabio Tishcler in the frenetic, inaugural EXA remotely-piloted race. The race occasioned the first instance in which the two pilots were given license to press their 4.1-meter-long eVTOL machines to the utmost in a blade-to-blade, fully-competitive remote race setting. On September 8, 2022, about, 1626 Pacific daylight time, a Czech Sport Aircraft, Piper Sport, N126WK, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident in Santa Monica, California. The flight instructor and student pilot were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations CFR Part 91 instructional flight. The flight was an introductory flight lesson for the prospective student pilot, with a flight school was based at Santa Monica Municipal Airport (SMO).
